Many of the Chinese left for the Victorian goldfields. Most returned home to
China to their families. Some stayed, settled and became part of the north
eastern community.
Now that time has passed, and as a nation we look to rediscover our roots, we find that there are roads that lead not just back to Europe but also to China.
In recognition of this strong historical link, the community of the North-East is looking to establish a sister province relationship with Guandong.

Where is Guandong Province?
Guandong Province lies in China’s south-east. The major cities, Guangzhou and Shenzhen are among the four most important cities in China. “Guang” itself means “expanse” or “vast”, and was associated with the region from the Western Jin Dynasty onwards. “Guangdong” and neighbouring Guangxi literally mean “expanse east” and “expanse west”. Together, Guangdong and Guangxi are called the “Two Guangs”
